When you perform a simple search, you enter a single search criterion, such as a product name, a manufacturer, or an ingredient CAS number. Search results show all products from your product list that match or contain this criterion in their common names, synonyms, ingredients, and/or other data areas. Administrators determine exactly which data areas are searched.
Note: Most punctuation you enter in your search criterion is ignored by a simple search. This ensures no matches are missed due to varying placements of hyphens, commas, etc.
To perform a simple search:
Starting at the Product Search page
In the Find field in the upper right, enter the word or phrase you seek in your products' data. Then press Enter or click the search () button.
Search Results appear below the Find field, showing how many products match/contain your search criterion in any or all of the following data areas (depending on your system configuration):
Products (common names or manufacturer names)
Bar-codes
Synonyms
Ingredients (ingredient names or CAS numbers)
User-defined fields (if any are defined in your system)
MSDS Texts.
If you have access to any additional MSDS resources—such as IHS Dolphin Online or manufacturer collections—the number of common name matches in these resources is also displayed. (See Searching IHS Dolphin Online for details on using IHS Dolphin Online search results.)
Click the area whose matches you want to view.
If you click any area other than Ingredients: The matching products are displayed, listed alphabetically by the chosen matching data type.
If you click Ingredients: All ingredients matching your search criterion are displayed. Click an ingredient to see all products that contain it and—if you have access to regulatory list information—all regulatory lists that cite it.
Click the product you want to view.
The Product Information page opens, showing the product's current MSDS. To return to your search results, click the "back" arrow in the upper left.
See Viewing a Product for details on viewing the different areas of the Product Information page.
